Where were the IDPs living Before PEV?

THE government is wasting  tax payers' money buying land for the resettlement of IDPs, an MP from Taita has said. Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu said normalcy had returned in the country and people displaced by the post-election violence should return to their homes.

Mwadeghu who is also the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Local Funds Trust wondered where the IDPs lived before the violence. Mwadeghu who was speaking at a leaders' meeting in Wundanyi said people claiming to be IDPs were hawkers and businesspeople cashing in on the violence to acquire free land.

His sentiments were echoed by Taita Taveta County Council Chairman Laban Tole who said local leaders will not allow settlement of IDPs in Taveta. There are claims the government was settling some people in Taveta secretly.
