Sonko tells Taita Taveta youth to go for posts

Makadara MP Gideon Mbuvi alias Sonko has challenged the youth in Taita Taveta county to vie for political leadership. Mbuvi said at the weekend that he is ready to sponsor any who is willing to take over the challenge. Speaking at a funds drive in Voi to aid a youth recently involved in a car accident, Mbuvi challenged the youth to stop fearing taking power from the old guards saying time for the youth to lead has come. "Our time as the youth of this nation to take over leadership and change the leadership style has come.

Take the challenge and don't fear those posts. We want to see youthful leaders dominate all the political posts countrywide come 2012," said the MP amid applause from the youth. Mbuvi blamed the past and current leadership for not putting up proper mechanisms that would improve the lives of the youth. He said this is purely because of selfishness. "There are over 6 million youths in the country eligible for voting but they have no ID cards because the government is delaying the processing of the important documents, a clear sign that they are not concerned about the future of the youth," he added.

He added that without ID cards the youth cannot get employment thus remain poor and poor in the society. "The ID card crisis has made the life of the youth so difficult today and we want the government to solve the issue immediately. Without the card one cannot get a loan from financial institutions for economic empowerment ," he said.
